Fall Entertaining – Pumpkin Roll Fondue

Fall is a wonderful time to pull out the fondue and entertain with ease. One of my favorite fall fondue dunkers is pumpkin roll. You can’t go wrong with anything pumpkin and traditional pumpkin rolls cut up easily and dunk well.

What excites you most about fall? For me, it’s the kickoff of the holiday season and that means entertaining, trying and making new recipes, and just chillin’ (like the weather!) and enjoying the moment.

Even though entertaining excites me, sometimes the thought of all the prep has me feeling overwhelmed but with this easy, 1-2-3 recipe, there’s no need to feel overwhelmed.

Today, I’m sharing an easy recipe for Salted Caramel Sauce that will make it look like you really took a lot of time to put this all together, but in actuality, you didn’t.

In other words, you’ll be the hostess with the mostest and you won’t have even broken a sweat.

I found my all things fall pumpkin inspiration on a recent trip to Walmart.  I bought two of The Bakery at Walmart Pumpkin Cake Rolls with Cream Cheese Filling and some Reddi-wip® as the main ingredients for this Fondue party.

Homemade Salted Caramel Sauce - perfect for the fondue

1 cup sugar

3 tablespoons butter

1 cup heavy whipping cream

2 tablespoons water

1 teaspoon sea salt

In a medium-sized heavy duty pot heat the sugar and water over medium heat.

Increase heat as necessary to allow the sugar to break down into a liquid.  It will begin to turn into a dark amber color.  You have to watch this carefully.  Do not allow the mixture to burn.

Once the sugar mixture is amber remove it from the heat and stir in the butter.  The mixture may sputter at you so be careful.  I stand back and add the butter slowly stepping back after adding each tablespoon.

Once the butter has melted, slowly, very slowly, drizzle in the cream then stir in the salt.  At this point, you may need to return the mixture to low heat because it may start to harden up.  I had this happen when I first put it into the fondue pot but it melted again once the fondue pot was warm enough.  You may want to have the heat source on even with an empty fondue so that when you add the caramel it maintains its texture.

How-To Rock Fondue

Have lots of options available to make your fondue fun!

I started with the Pumpkin Roll placing it in the freezer for about an hour before I removed it and cut it into slices.

I then cut the Pumpkin Roll into cubes for easy fondue dipping.

In addition to the pumpkin roll, I had a platter of apple slices, cooked bacon, large marshmallows cut in half, sprinkles, and of course, Reddi-wip!

I wanted my fondue treat to look nice and neat but the one above is my youngest son’s….he made his extra caramely and of course, had to add enough Reddi-wip to cover everthing plus some sprinkles.
