Oh my…the long, hot days of summer….bored little guy…busy mom…what to do…what to do? A few weeks ago the little guys and I went to the library and got some summer reading material….for MR {the littlest guy} we also got an art book, First Book of Art: With Lots of Projects to Do
by Rosie Dickins. This book is chock full of great ideas that are simple and most can be made with what you have on hand.
For this project all we needed was construction paper {check}, safety scissors {no check….couldn’t find ours so we substituted scrapbooking zig zag scissors}, glue stick {check} and pencil/markers/crayons {check}.
Step One
Get construction paper ~ we used one entire sheet folded in half and then cut one sheet in half and folded those two pieces in half.
Step Two
With folded half at the top {think greeting card}, freehand the shape of a hippo leaving the top {the folded portion, intact-this will NOT be cut}…ours look more like sheep {I should not have allowed myself to do this part}.
Step Three
Cut along the lines remembering NOT to cut the top.
Step Four
MR added construction paper cut into shapes onto the front of the hippos using a glue stick. He also drew eyes, a nose and mouth.
easy kid craft hugs, mb
