How to Make an Easy and Beautiful Thanksgiving Centerpiece and Tablescape
Thanksgiving is such a wonderful holiday. A day of the year set aside to count our blessings. When I think of Thanksgiving my mind goes to pictures I had seen when I was a child of the Horn of Plenty and a feeling of abundance.
As much as I truly love to entertain, I have never done a tablescape or an ornate centerpiece. That seems odd, doesn’t it? I’ve set the table with beautiful dinnerware and flowers but I’ve never really gone all out.
To be honest, I was totally intimidated by the entire process but once I started to look at pictures on Pinterest I realized that you just have to let yourself go…have a theme, stick with it but throw caution to the wind and keep adding to it and that’s what I did with my very first tablescape and centerpiece created especially for Thanksgiving and to share with you!I started with a basket from Michaels, flowers, flowers, flowers (all faux) from Michaels and Pat Catan’s, florist foam, wire, and floral picks.
When I purchased the faux flowers I thought I had gone overboard and bought far too many but when all was said and done, I used them ALL! To start I placed a table runner on my table to anchor everything. Mine was a paisley fabric round tablecloth I found on clearance at Walmart. I simply folded the tablecloth to a runner configuration. I plan on cutting off the excess and making napkins with it but that’s another post 😉
Next, I added salvaged pieces of pallet wood to the center of the table and placed my centerpiece on top of it.
Now, in days gone by I would have stopped there but not this time. I added some plastic antlers (Halloween department at Walmart – $3.18!). Next, I added small pumpkins and decorative gourds around the base of the centerpiece.
I placed my kitchen Rosemary plant to the left of the centerpiece along with a pomegranate. Behind that I placed a wooden bowl of fresh pears…and continued…
I placed a faux hydrangea into a small metal urn and placed that next to one of my placesettings.
The placesettings are all Pioneer Woman dishes and silverware (from Walmart). I added some plaid napkins (clearance item from Target)….
I placed a few of the sprays of leaves left from my centerpiece into my gilded honeycomb pitcher and placed a mercury glass mason jar with a candle in it next to that.
Asymmetry did NOT rule here…I pulled and decorated from items I had around my house and just kept adding to create a one-of-a-kind, lush and inviting setting.
I hope you enjoyed my first venture into creating a tablescape. Be sure to check out the other beautiful tablescapes and centerpieces created for Thanksgiving by my friends below:
