That powerful snippet is from the first video on this page. When I watched it, I got goosebumps and almost cried. The same thing has happened every subsequent time that I have watched it. It reminds me that there is nothing quite like the fulfillment we get from helping others.....from showing compassion, from actually DOING SOMETHING to help others, to living with honor and to making a difference.

Wow, right?

Sometimes, we go through life wondering what it is that we can do to make a difference and this is one of those opportunities where we can do something that can impact generations to come and it is a relatively simple thing to do.

It is a simple way that you can help to literally change the future of medicine and that is by participation in the All of Us Research Program.

What is the All of Us Research Program

This program is a nationwide program that is run by the National Institutes of Health.  

The goal of the program is to engage one million or more U.S. participants to revolutionize how disease is prevented and treated based on individual differences in lifestyle, environment, and genetics. 

All of Us Pennsylvania, the University of Pittsburgh's program, plans to enroll 120,000 patients in the region, and fund pilot studies using accrued data to advance precision medicine care which is personalized medicine health care that is based on the individual. 

This is huge and can potentially unlock mysteries that will help others in the near, and far, future, leading the way forward. 

The All of Us website is full of information regarding this amazing program. Across the top of the website, there are areas where you can schedule an appointment to join the program, an area where common questions are answered as well as the locations of centers. 

If you decide to become a participant you will be contributing to the largest health data resource ever. Researchers may use this data in health studies and that could, in turn, lead to the next big medical breakthrough.

What About Privacy?

One question that came up in my household while we were discussing this was privacy. Your privacy is extremely important and as a participant in the program, great care will be taken to protect your privacy including removing your name and other direct identifiers, like your Social Security number, from your information and this will be replaced with a code. The list is secure and very few people have access to it.
