Homemade Light Brown Sugar

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsulfured molasses

Instructions

  • Add the white sugar and molasses to your food processor.
  • Process for about 30 to 60 seconds until the molasses is fully incorporated and the mixture is uniform in color with no streaks.
  • Stop and scrape down the sides if needed and process again briefly.
  • Use immediately in your recipe or store in an airtight container.

Notes

For dark brown sugar use 2 tablespoons of molasses instead of 1.
This recipe makes 1 cup of brown sugar and can be scaled up as needed.
Blackstrap molasses is not recommended here as it has a very strong bitter flavor. Use regular unsulfured molasses for the best results.
Homemade brown sugar may be slightly more moist than store bought which is actually a good thing for most baking recipes.
