Dollar Store Spring Centerpiece

Dollar Store Spring Centerpiece

Do you love Thrifty and Chic Decor? I do because it's simple to put together yet makes a huge impact on your space and ultimately, your mood. Today, I'm sharing a Dollar Store Spring Egg Carton Centerpiece using items from the Dollar Store and cardboard egg cartons. I do so enjoy creating something from an item I'd usually recycle.

Thrifty Style

Today is Thrifty Style Team day, one of my favorite of the month. The day when so many creative bloggers come together to share their unique style all with a Thrifty twist. After you check out my post, take a few moments to treat yourself by checking all of the amazing creativity by clicking on the links at the bottom of this post and checking out the picture of all the thrifty style. You'll be armed with so much inspiration, you'll be able to deck out your home in no time all on a budget.

Dollar Store Egg Carton Centerpiece

The supplies for this are minimal.

Supplies:

3 Cardboard egg cartons

Spring items from the Dollar Tree - the bunny wasn't necessary but for $1.00 I couldn't pass him up. He was just too cute.

Craft Paint

Craft Paint Brush

Cardboard Egg Carton Wreath - the Base

Cut the lid from the base of each egg carton and the little tab in the front

Cut each base into 3 equal parts - Also cut AROUND each section so that the individual parts are rounded. You'll see exactly what I mean a little further down. I didn't realize to round things out until after I painted the cartons so if you miss this step, no worries, you can fix it later.

Now, paint! I painted the inner and top portion of each egg carton section. I didn't think it was necessary to paint the outside area but if you want to, you certainly can do that.

Because the egg cartons are paper-based, they dried very quickly.

This is where I realized my mistake. When I grouped everything together into a rounded-wreath shape, it just didn't look right. *UGH*

This was easily rectified, though. I just went back and cut out each section to have rounded corners. It took about another 5 minutes so that wasn't too bad, and it was totally worth it. Don't they look much better all rounded? I could also now see the potential to use these as flowers in another project, maybe painting them in bold colors or pastels, adding a yellow center, and maybe a chenille stem? What do you think?

Moving on. Now, everything looks much better when arranged in a circle-wreath shape.

Add all the little Dollar Tree goodies into the egg carton sections. I used paper grass, plastic eggs.....

PEEPS, jelly beans, and ribbon.

Dollar Store Spring

When I moved my dollar store egg carton centerpiece to the dining room table I switched out the eggs for some plastic spattered ones I had on hand but otherwise, everything else remained the same.

This was such an easy and fun project and once you're done celebrating Easter and Spring you can save the painted egg carton bases and use them for another seasonal display.

Now, for the rest of the Thrifty Style Team projects! These ladies always amaze me!
