Heart- Shaped Hand Warmers - The Perfect Little Valentine's Day Gift

This year for Valentine's Day I wanted to make some Valentine's Day gifts and cards for family and friends that weren't romance themed.

I bought several sweaters from the Thrift Store before Christmas and oh the plans I had for them....but it's February and the sweaters are still sitting in a pile in my craft room.  My eye caught this red sweater and an idea hit me! I could make a stack of rice-filled hand warmers to give as little gifts.

You Warm My Heart - Sweater Handwarmer Card for Valentine's Day Other than the sweater, I gathered some supplies from my craft stash: glassine envelopes, seam binding, vintage millinery flowers, blank cards, a sharpie, a red marker, red thread, paper embellishments, rice, a funnel, heart-shaped cookie cutter, scissors, pretty straight pins and ribbon.

I placed the cookie cutter onto my sweater and traced it with a Sharpie.  After I did the first one I realized that the Sharpie marking would show so I then turned the sweater inside out for the marking portion of the project.

I cut out my heart and held the two layers in place with straight pins.  I also placed it on top of the blank card to make sure it would fit - it was a go!

Fill heart shaped sweater hand warmer with rice using a funnel

Stitch around the heart leaving a small opening to add the rice.  Use a funnel to avoid a mess!  Once you have filled your hand warmer stitch the opening closed.  Stitch a ribbon loop to the back of the hand warmer.

Write sentiments on blank card before adding the sweater hand warmer

Add your sentiments to the top of the card using a red marker then attach the hand warmer using a pin to hold the ribbon in place.

Insert card into glassine envelope and fold over top of envelope.

Stitch top of glassine envelope closed

Stitch the top of the envelope closed.

Add paper embellishments to top of glassine envelope with machine stitching

I added a paper rose to the top of the envelope - I switched from a zig zag stitch to a straight stitch for this portion only.

I wrapped seam binding around the envelope tying it into a bow and then added a small bunch of millinery flowers.
