How to Make Gilded Mason Jar Vases
It's that time of year again ~ time to celebrate summer with the Fun in the Sun Blog Hop! Where I live there's only a limited time that flowers are growing and blooming in my yard and I like to make the most of it. I {really} like Mason Jars and Jars in general and often use them as vases.
Rather than just leaving them plain, though, I added some shine to these with gilding.
I started with a Ball Blue Mason Jar and a recycled spaghetti sauce jar. I removed the label from the spaghetti sauce jar using this technique.
The Blue Jar is pretty on its own but I had some gilding supplies left from my Gilded Honeycomb Pitcher and thought the gilding would add a nice touch to these jars. I didn't want the gold to completely cover the jars but wanted a bit of a shabby chic outcome.
In order to do that I used a sponge brush to apply the adhesive randomly leaving some areas uncovered and then applied the gilding (gold leaf sheets) according to the directions on the package. {If you have any questions, just let me know.}
I really like how this turned out. Not only would it be pretty for flowers but some votive candles placed inside the jars would cast such a pretty glow.
The more you 'buff' the gilding once you have allowed it to dry the more it shines.
And there you have it ~ a pretty way to display your flowers and add some elegance to any setting.
