How to Make a Deer Head Silhouette

Valentine's Day Heart-Shaped Deer Head Silhouettes

Have you seen the Deer Heads and Deer Head Silhouettes all over the decor world lately? I have and I love them.

Deer Head Silhouette Art from cupcakesandcrinoline.com

I made a 3D Deer Head for Christmas that's still on my wall...I can't seem to part with it... and when I started thinking about Valentine's Day I thought it would be cute to make one ~ Deers for my Dear {cheesy, I know!}.

How to Make a Valentine Deer Head Silhouette

Deer Head Silhouette Art SuppliesSupplies:  12 x 12 Canvas, Craft Glue, Glitter, Scissors, Cardboard for tracing pattern ~ Free Downloadable Pattern

Heart Antlers Deer Head Download and TutorialFor this Valentine Deer Head Silhouette I drew a deer head and then reversed it so I had two and I brought their antlers together to form a heart shape.  {You can download the pattern here.}

Deer Head Silhouette Art with CardboardI used a very fancy advanced method for transferring the pattern to cardboard ~ I traced over the silhouette with a dull pencil pushing down really hard on to the cardboard {sort of like I did in grade school}.

Deer Head Silhouette Art with scissorsNext, I used sharp scissors to cut out the silhouette and then using a pencil transferred it to a 12 x 12 square of canvas.

Glitter and Glue Deer Head SilhouetteI then used Aleene's Tacky Glue to fill in one Silhouette at a time sprinkling on a heavy coating of red glitter.

Once this was dry I gently brushed off the excess glitter and hung my Valentine's Day Deer Head Silhouette from an old barnwood frame.

Deer Head Silhouette in White Frame from Cupcakes and CrinolineI also tried the Canvas in a White Frame....I think I like the Weathered Barnwood Frame better!  Which do you prefer?

The sparkle/glitter doesn't really show up on pictures but when the sun hits or at night with low light it sparkles like crazy!  I love the way it turned out.
