Mini Succulent Garden with Chalkboard Lazy Susan~ Homemade Mother's Day Project
Today is the first day of the Mother's Day Blog Hop and I could hardly wait to share my post with you ~ It's a whole heapin' bunch of things I like.
My Mom passed away over 20 years ago so thinking about what to give as a Mother's Day gift hasn't been something I've had to do for a long time but when I was getting ready to do this post I remembered little things about my Mom {that made me smile} and thought how from the time I was little on I always made her at least one gift for Mother's Day and even if I bought her a few others she always treasured the homemade gifts most.
I love plants and with summer around the corner, this was a gift to me ~ a mini garden that I can put in my sunroom or on a table outside and when the weather starts to turn cold again I can bring it inside.
I chose a plain wooden lazy Susan as the base for my project, sanded it down and then painted it with 4 coats of green chalkboard paint. I'm a big fan of the black chalkboard paint but because I wanted this to represent a garden I went with the green paint.
I picked up a colander at the thrift store for 75 cents and a coconut plant liner at the Dollar Tree that I used to line the colander.
{I wanted to use all three of the above but ran out of room on the lazy Susan so just went with the colander}
Next, I added some good quality dirt and some succulents from Ikea and I topped this off with some moss.
The lantern is also from Ikea and I thought would be nice with a citronella candle in it if you Mom will be using it outdoors.
I cut some fresh flowers from my yard and placed them into a Mason jar to add some color to the gift.
The final step is this card {you can download it here}.
This little mini Mother's Day garden would be perfect for any Mom whether she has a deck, a sunroom, a patio or just a sunny window. The lazy Susan can be changed out and updated for different occasions and you can surprise Mom with love notes any time you drop by to visit her {she'll love that!}.
Be sure to follow along on the Mother's Day Blog Hop with all of these fabulous blogs who will be posting in the order shown here:
The Hop will wrap up with a $200.00 Visa Gift Card Giveaway PLUS Jewelry from Lucy's Inspired and juNxtaposition starting on April 27th so be sure to come back to enter the giveaway!

Hi Mary Beth
What a beautiful project. I love the lazy susan chalkboard paint idea. Especially like your use of the old colander. I found a vintage flour sifter a few weeks ago, and turned it into a planter, too. Great minds think alike 🙂 It's on my blog.
Have a great day,
Doreen
Thanks so much, Doreen. I love vintage kitchen items...they are among my favorite thrift store finds.
