Glow in the Dark Halloween Doormat
Halloween Decor - Make your own Halloween Doormat that glows in the dark.
DIY Halloween Decor
If you like simple and fun how-to's and DIY home decor, you've come to the right place. I also like to make crafts that are somewhat cutesy like this pumpkin wreath.
I'm NOT a Painter
I'm not that good at painting... give me a coloring book and I can usually stay in the lines {If I stick my tongue out, squint really hard, have new crayons and focus, focus, focus} but, I love to craft so I go for easy, quick and inexpensive. I wanted a Halloween doormat for Trick or Treat but didn't want to spend a lot of money and got the bright idea {did you just see a light bulb go off?} to paint my own... woot...thank heavens for coir doormats. I bought my doormat (you can find them at Walmart or Amazon and can click on the pic above for the Amazon option).
I had some paint on hand, a sharpie marker and 2 pieces of scrap paper which was all I needed.
Supplies:
- Sisal doormat (there are a lot of inexpensive options here)
- Glow in the dark craft paint
- Orange outdoor craft paint
- Yellow outdoor craft paint
- White outdoor craft paint
- Black outdoor craft paint
- Sharpie marker
- Scrap cardboard or paper
How To Make A Halloween Doormat That Glows in the Dark
I free-handed a Capital B, a chubby O, and a candy corn shape and laid them out on my mat and traced away using a Sharpie. You can see above that I played around with the shapes making them bigger as needed. Since I was using paper, I didn't feel stressed about making a mistake. I tried a few times until I got the size and shape to my liking and then cut out my letters and shapes.
I filled in the outlines using the black paint and then painted the candy corn shapes using the orange, yellow, and white paint. I mixed the white with a glow in the dark paint so that the mat 'glows' at night.
The glow in the dark paint didn't have enough color to go it alone so that's why I mixed it with the white. Keep the ratio a little more in favor of the glow in the dark paint so that it glows well.
I did two coats of each color and when done outlined everything again with the Sharpie... and voila... a Trick or Treat Halloween Decor Doormat.
It Glows!
Do you see the scary glow??? {I have no idea how to take night pictures that aren't just black...so please help me pretend it's glowing}.
Very cute!

Wow, you are talented! I can't believe you made this! It's super cute!
It looks so great! It looks store bought, for sure. Great job!
That is really cute. We have (had) a Halloween doormat last year, but I can't find it this year. I was just going to skip it, but when I see how cute this is...I may need to make one. The glow in the dark paint is genius!
It turned out just darling! Love the white glow-in-the-dark - great idea!

I love it! I never thought of painting my plain ol' doormat, but now that I've seen how awesome it is I think I might have to make one for every season. Thanks for sharing!
