3D Wall Art Using Avocados
I love avocados but to be honest with you, other than guacamole, I don't think I've ever thought too much about avocados ~ until now! I had the awesome opportunity to create something NOT food related with avocados. I started to do some research and found out just how amazing avocados are.

I ended up making avocado vegan cupcakes with avocado icing {my husband insists these are his favorite cupcakes ever
~ I dyed some lovely cotton fabrics and laces to make a tote bag
{the end result was a soft dusty pink}, I dyed Easter eggs {check back tomorrow for that info} and I also made this cute 3D Bunny Art ~ all with only 4 avocados. I honestly could not believe the treasure I had been missing out on all of these years. This little bunny was so easy to make. I started with some ripe avocados and cut them in half. I then removed the pit and gently scraped out the avocado {which I used for the cupcakes and icing}. I rinsed the avocado shells, again being gentle. I preheated my oven to 175° and placed the shells cut side down {rounded side up} on a pizza stone and baked for 90 minutes. I then turned the oven off and let them cool down. After approximately 30 minutes, I removed them from the oven and painted them. I painted two base coats of white paint on the shells allowing them to dry in between. I then added the little paw prints, nose, mouth and inner ears using a soft pink paint and finally added the eyes and whiskers using a nice licorice black paint. The texture of the dried avocado reminded me of fur ~ just perfect for this little bunny. Once dry, I hot glued the pieces in the shape of a chubby bunny to some burlap and mounted this inside a shadow box frame.
Mary Beth, this is so creative and completely adorable! Can you believe I never liked Avocados until I went to Mexico for my son's wedding last year? Now I can't get enough of them! Pinning this and sharing on FB! Have a happy Tuesday! Hugs, Cindy
Thank you so much, Cindy ~ I had no idea how awesome avocados were until the last few weeks...now, I am crazy about them!
Have a great week.
Hugs,
Mary Beth
I love Guacamole!
I love Guacamole!
I love guacamole! YUMMM!
I do, too, Katie!
I love this, Mary Beth! So creative and I never knew you could use the skin like that. My twins loved avocado when they were babies...now I can't get them to touch one. Once that sweet tooth was activated, they turned their little noses up. π
I made some avocado cupcakes that they just might like! I'll be posting that next week. I honestly am a HUGE fan of avocados now.
Thanks for stopping by, Jami!
Hugs, Mary Beth
Oh my gosh, that it SO clever!! We have lots of avocados around here. I'm going to have to try that. (And my family is going to think I'm nuts! π
My family always thinks I'm nuts, Elena ~ come to the dark side with me. ; )
This is so adorable Mary Beth! I need to make one of these this week for Easter! π
And I can't believe you didn't know how great they were until a few weeks ago! π I love guacamole and just plain ole avocado. I put it on everything! My husband introduced me to guacamole when we were dating, about 24 yrs ago. I've been hooked since!
I had no idea how amazing avocados were, Nancy! I feel like I've been on Mars or something. Your husband is one smart man for knowing about their wonders years ago. π
I love avocados every which way, but my favorite way is in a butter lettuce salad with segmented oranges, thinly sliced fennel, and a citrus vinaigrette.
Jenn ~ that sounds like an amazing recipe ~ you are so awesome!
Hugs,
Mary Beth
That is so creative. What a cute project! There was absolutely no waste with the avocados.
Absolutely adorable! I thought about painting on the skins too, but never would have thought to bake them first. Very smart! π
Really amazing project MB! xo
I love gucamole!
I love gucamole!
The 3d bunny is the most clever use of an avocado that I've ever seen!
Thank you so much, Beverly!
How adorable! And who'd have thought to use the skins this way, simply brilliant! I love this idea, but I only have 2 avocados...off to the store to get more!
Thank you!
Debbie π
You're so sweet, Debbie ~ thanks for stopping by ~ glad you liked my bunny. π
I typically just smear it on toast with a fried egg. Never thought to use it for a craft!
I've never tried it on toast with a fried egg...adding to my list of avocado yumminess!
Thanks for stopping by, Rachel.
It's generic, but I can't help it-- I LOVE guacamole made with fresh avocados! I could eat it every day. π
I am a guacamole fanatic, too, Carrie. It's one of my favorite foods.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs,
Mary Beth

Thanks, Gina!
Cute! I never thought of crafting with avocado skins before.
Thanks so much, Jessica.
OMG so darling!! Love this. I love guacamole π
Thanks, Amy! π
I love eating avocados in ceviche
I love Avacado slices on my salads.
Thanks so much, Anne ~ I left my 2 cents on your page...I am terrible at making choices especially when it comes to paint ~ my boys' room needs painted and cannot decide what color to go with.
Big hugs,
Mary Beth
