If you're going to be celebrating Memorial Day or the 4th of July and you're looking for an easy dessert then these Firecracker Cupcakes are perfect!Supplies needed for Firecracker Cupcakes - red candy melts, sprinkles, store bought cupcakes, cupcake wrappers and cupcake topper "fireworks".

Because you start with store-bought cupcakes you're saving a lot of time and you're not heating up your house.  The only other supplies you need are red candy melts, patriotic cupcake wrappers, red and blue cupcake toppers {I found the ones I used at Joann Fabrics}, patriotic sprinkles, toothpicks and large marshmallows.

I also prepped a baking sheet with a non-stick silicone mat to hold my candy-coated marshmallows while they harden in the refrigerator.

Red Candy Melts for Firecracker Cupcakes

Melt the Red Candy  Melts according to the directions on the package until the candy melts are fully melted and smooth.

Marshmallows being dipped into red candy melts - these are your fireworks sticksAdd toothpicks to the center of the marshmallows plunging the toothpick fairly far in but do not allow it to go all the way through.  Red Candy melted marshmallowsNow, dip each marshmallow individually into the melted chocolate using a spoon, if necessary, to completely coat the marshmallows.Candy Coated Marshmallows with toothpicksOnce you have all of the marshmallows coated in the red candy melts, place in the refrigerator and allow to harden.  This should only take about 10 minutes.  Swap out the toothpicks for the "fireworks"Once the candy coating is hardened swap out the toothpicks for the cupcake topper "fireworks".  If you have enough room in your refrigerator, you can do this before placing the marshmallows in the refrigerator to harden but my current refrigerator is small and that wasn't an option for me.  Prep cupcakes by adding sprinklesNow, prep your cupcakes.  Add sprinkles to store bought cupcakes to match the occasionI simply added some sprinkles to the frosting edges leaving the center free of sprinkles since this is where I'll be placing the "fireworks".  I also placed each cupcake in a red, white, and blue cupcake wrapper while leaving on the original wrapper.Firecracker Cupcakes ready for eating!

Next, add the marshmallow fireworks to the center of each cupcake and you're done! Firecracker Cupcakes on Display
