Stay hydrated all day long with water and simple to make fruit infused ice cubes. The process is so simple and the combinations are endless!
Drinking enough water every day is important, right? The answer is yes, of course, but sometimes as a busy mom you make sure that everyone else's needs are met, but yours. I'm right there with you. I make sure everyone in my family has their water bottles filled with fresh water and that they are getting all they need but...not me.
Years ago I lost a significant amount of weight and while eating right and exercising were vitally important I know that another important factor was water. I kept a large container of water on my desk while I worked refilling as necessary. When I started to get hungry I would drink the water - I wanted to be sure I wasn't just thirsty and so many times, the hunger passed.
Well, sadly I need to lose weight again. I'm a stress eater and the last few years, especially the last few months, have been very stressful so here I go again with my plan from a few years ago. Lots of fresh veggies and fruit, lean meats and LOTS of water!
This time, though, I am adding something awesome to my water....fresh fruit and lots of it!
Last year I shared some fruit-infused water recipes and those are great. My family loved having the fancy 😉 water readily available especially on hot days BUT I got tired of
I'll do this again for entertaining but for everyday fruit-infused water this time I'm going to be adding simple to make fruit-infused ice cubes to my water container....oh, and I treated myself to a new water container.
I was at Target alone last week (yay me) and found an awesome container. A Contigo AUTOSEAL® Chill Bottle on an endcap in the housewares aisle. There were lots of great colors to choose from and that's important because I don't want anyone grabbing MY bottle and claiming it as their own. Mama gets mad when that happens. I was debating between the Very Berry (left side), the Stainless Steel with Monaca and the Matte Black with Iced Aqua and since black makes you look thinner I chose that one. It's my version of a skinny black dress until I can fit in one again.
There were several reasons I chose this particular bottle.
First, it will keep my water cold for up to 28 hours. I want to be able to grab my bottle and go when I need to and not deal with warm water later in the day....cold is the way to go!
Second, it is spill proof. I'll be keeping this at my desk for a large part of the day and the last thing I want is water knocked over and potentially getting to my computer tower or ruining the wood on my desk. Even though my sons are getting older, my baby just turned 12, they are wild. I've said it before and I'll say it again....my house is like a giant wrestling ring/football field. One of the reasons I stopped keeping water on my desk was because I found myself worried something would come flying at me from across the room and knock over my water.
This bottle seals itself and trust me, I tested it. I laid it down on its side and NOTHING came out....another yay! When you push the button (one -handed) the seal opens, you drink, you release....it's sealed. It's that easy! Plus, there's a cool little handle at the top, grab and go, and it fits perfectly in my car's cup holder. It is going to be my go-to bottle for this weight-loss journey. Oh....and there is a Limited Time Offer: $19.99 at Target. I may go back and get another bottle in the Very Berry. That way, I've always got one ready to use. So now, here is the easy process for making the fruit-infused ice cubes.
You can use a regular ice cube tray as that size will fit in the Contigo bottle but I literally just got rid of my trays last week, I have perfect timing, so I bought a tray that makes thinner cubes. These will fit in my family's much less awesome water containers....I'm throwing them a bone! Gather some fresh fruit....whatever YOU want and like. I gathered my fruit, washed it and then cut it up into pieces that would fit in my tray.Once your tray is filled add water and freeze....that's it! You can also use veggies (cucumber water) and herbs. As the season progresses buy fresh fruit, veggies and herbs at local farm markets and make new combinations.
The first combo I tried was blackberries and lemon....oh my goodness, it was delicious, and it literally stayed cold ALL DAY!
I'm quite happy with my Contigo water bottle 🙂 🙂 🙂 and can't wait to update you on my weight loss. Now that we're being all girl-friendy, do you have any weight loss tips to share?
I have done the same thing as you and reached for the water when I thought I was hungry. Amazing how dehydration affects us! Great ideas for staying hydrated and flavoring our water #OnTheGoWithContigo! #client
Thanks so much, Kara! Have an awesome day.
My Contigo cup goes EVERYWHERE with me! I love this idea and can't wait to give it a try π
This is my first Contigo and I love it! Thanks so much for stopping by, Ang.
Looks so refreshing for the hot summer months - and I need one of those bottles - 18 hours cold - wow!
I'll bet it's already warm where you are, Maryann! We are just easing into the warm weather here but I know I'll be thankful for the cold water on the days when it is in the 90's.
Dr ordered blood work. Thinks thyroid problem? Hope to get it fixed? And lose some weight. Good luck on your weight loss journey! You go girl !
Will have to check out target for that water bottle. Sounds like something I need! Waiting for warmer weather here too. (Surrey BC. Canada )
I hope everything goes well with your blood work, Lynell. Thanks so much for the good luck weight loss wishes and the same to you! We can do this π
Your "ice cubes" look amazing and I think you picked the perfect color combo for your new water bottle. I think I need one, too!
Tips? Well... my best is ditching the dinner plate for a luncheon plate. My second... is eating a great breakfast. We love cheesy scrambled eggs, omelets with leftover broccoli and yes, cheese and some fruit... right now a half a ruby grapefruit. YUM! Although I know this is contrary to popular opinion I use lots of butter on my veggies at dinner time as it improves my body's ability to get the nutrients from my veggies, it also helps me to feel satisfied, AND feeds my brain. I've gone entirely sugar free in the past... but that really is NO fun. So, I allow myself one super delicious gourmet style cookie as a late evening snack with a cup of tea. I look forward to it all day. π It's a great reward and seriously seems to have zero impact on the scale.
You'll do great, Mary Beth!! Always here to cheer you on! XO
Those are great tips, Diane! Thank you so much for sharing. I love the butter tip (I LOVE BUTTERED BROCCOLI AND CAULIFLOWER!!!) and the gourmet cookie sounds amazing! Have a blessed Easter. xoxo, mb
Re: butter and broccoli and cauli... ME TOO! I have a little twist to butter on my broccoli... I also squeeze a wedge of lemon all over my broccoli. Oh. My. It's. Good!!! xo
Where did you get the ice cube trays?
Hi Teresa, I bought my ice cube tray at Home Goods but I've seen it on Amazon as well (affiliate link) https://amzn.to/2oIsrqh
