How To Add Pops of Color to Your Kitchen for under $20

Add clear, rich colors, and a spring vibe to your kitchen for under $20.00!

Hello friends, and welcome to the Thrifty Style Team post of the month! I'm so happy you're here and if you think you're at the wrong place, you're not...please stay! This little site used to be Cupcakes and Crinoline but after 9 ½ years, it was time to change some things around so now, Cupcakes and Crinoline is The How-To Home! Sit back, grab a cup of coffee (or tea) and stay awhile.  Also, you'll want to check out all of the other amazing Thrifty Style Team creativity at the bottom of this post!

So, now on to business

It's that time of year when most people have just about had it with winter.  Too many gray skies and wet days, right? I may be jumping the gun a little bit but a few weeks ago I decided to pretend it was spring (in my mind anyway!).

I was at Target and found a set (2) of pretty kitchen towels and colorful cups in the Dollar Spot (is that what they call it???) and those were the springboard for my inspiration.  ($12.00 total)

My next stop was Aldi because well, my family eats pretty much constantly so Costco, Sam's Club, and Aldi are my hangouts.  Anyone else??? Anywho....I was at the register at Aldi and grabbed a bouquet of pink roses ($3.99 - no guilt!) and headed home.

I pulled a three-legged hobnail vase off the dining room shelves (the vase was 99 cents at my local Goodwill) and added the roses to it (I'm up to a whole $16.98 at this point - woot to the big spender in me). p.s. Is it just me or does the name of the vase sound like a Lord of the Rings character?

Next, I layered one of the Target towels across my small white cake pedestal and topped it with the hobnail vase and roses.

I placed the other towel in a vintage silver Victorian hand clamp and spring-ed up my letterboard and placed it above my sink and that was it.

I do love how it all came together! I was so inspired that I pulled out one of my very favorite coffee cups and saucers to celebrate.

The sun was shining (YAY) when I snapped this picture.....ahhhhh spring is on its way.

  4. Well Mrs. How To, yes I am sick of winter, except for the next two weeks yet of California time, and yes I hang out at grocery stores. Cuz darn-nit my family eats too, but what the heck I never find flowers for that kind of price!!!

    1. Mary Beth says:

Oh......California! I was there a few times and it was so beautiful but my kids have never been and they want to go (I hear about it often). I'll tell them to pretend that they're there with you. Share a picture or two and I'll photoshop them in. 😉

      Enjoy your trip, Miss Bliss!

Congratulations on your re-branding! I re-branded my blog a few years ago, and although it was a tough process, it was so worth it in the end! I'm sure it will be the same for you too.

I love your hobnail vase and what you've done with it for spring. I've never seen a vase like that before and I am totally in love with it! You can bet I'll be on the lookout for one the next time I go thrifting.

    1. Mary Beth says:

Thank you so much about the rebranding. I knew I'd miss the old blog name but it was time. Also, the little vase is even cuter in person. I hope you find one soon.

what a pretty way to usher spring in your home.....when it does show up... i love that hand holding the towel. is that what it is for?

    1. Mary Beth says:

I agree about spring showing up! Where I live we're supposed to see a 70 degree day this week...I may decide to lay out for a tan 😉 As far as the hand holding the towel, I am honestly not sure what it's supposed to be used for. I have moved it around over the years. Sometimes, it's near my desk and I use it to hold printables or notes but for now, it's in the kitchen holding a towel - who knows where it will end up next.
