Rich and Delicious Bolognese Sauce Made with Kefir
Rich and Delicious Bolognese Sauce Made with Lifeway Kefir
I have never made a Bolognese Sauce before....ever. It sounded intimidating to me but in an effort to be bolder I decided to give it a go. Not only was I going to make a homemade bolognese sauce with {mostly} fresh ingredients but I wanted to beef it up with some probiotic cultures. I was on two courses of antibiotics recently for total of 15 out of 17 days and I'm trying to bring back balance to my digestive health. Lifeway Kefir is a great way to get everything headed in the right direction or to keep you in balance.
📖 Recipe
Ingredients
- ½ cup of Lifeway Low Fat Kefir Plain and Unsweetened
- ½ cup of Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 1 garlic clove peeled and chopped
- 1 zucchini peeled and sliced thin
- 1 carrot sliced thin
- 1-8 ounce package Baby Bellas mini Portobello mushrooms sliced
- 1-28 ounce can diced tomatoes
- 1 pound ground beef
- 6 fresh basil leaves chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large skillet heat olive oil.
- Add the onion and garlic and saute until tender.
- Add the zucchini, carrots and mushrooms and saute for an additional 5 to 10 minutes.
- Raise heat to medium high and add the ground beef stirring until cooked through and no pink remains; approximately 10 minutes.
- Add the tomatoes, Kefir, salt, pepper and basil and cook over medium high heat until the sauce thickens.
- Serve with pasta of your choice.

We had this for dinner last night and it was a success! I love when a recipe turns out and so does my family.
More reasons to love Lifeawy Kefir: It's Gluten Free so everyone in my family can eat it, it's 99% Lactose Free and it contains No Artificial Sweeteners. It's rich in calcium and it's made from milk that comes from cows that are NOT treated with pesticides, antibiotics or synthetic growth hormones. The cows are grass fed and GMO Free. This is so important to me and my family. I used to just trust everything I bought foodwise but not any more. I am now a label reader and the Lifeway Kefir is a product (and label) I trust. My whole family is happy to drink it straight from the bottle. It's versatile and recipe friendly and is a part of my new go-to #KefirCreations recipes. You can sign up to receive Lifeway Kefir coupons here. It's a great way to save money and take your recipes up a healthy notch!
I was so happy to create this recipe as a member of #CollectiveBias.
