 Welcome!

I am so happy to have you here today for the Light Up the Night Summer Housewalk sponsored by Balsam Hill.

Lanterns on the lawn twoSummer is so many things...it is the time of year when you can feel like a kid again...

when you can catch fireflies....

and sit outside late into the evening....

talking about your hopes....

dreams...

J and J celebrating summer nights

memories......

and life.

You laugh....

you play.....Outdoor lanterns on the lawn

and before you know it it's the wee hours of the morning.

Some of my favorite childhood memories are of camping....

the smell of the Coleman lantern and the glow it cast on the faces of my family members....

campfire

campfires....

and the lights my Dad would string up around the camper....

Ahhhh.... Summer.

Light Up the Night - Summer Tour cupcakesandcrinoline.comMy sons, husband and I don't camp *sigh*....and there are no campfires allowed in our neighborhood....

but we do still like to spend time outside.Lanterns near fountain - front of flowerbed cupcakesandcrinoline.com

My favorite ways to light up the night are with beautiful lanterns - these are from Balsam Hill....and candles.  Have you ever tried the battery operated  ones? I love that I don't have to worry if I remember to blow them out or not......

Faux boxwood topiary with lights

and a faux boxwood topiary covered in small lights tucked inside a beautiful classic urn.....

Globe lights strung from trees and a mason jar candle holder

and globe lights strung from trees.....

and mason jars filled with sand and a candle......

Once the cooler temperatures start I'll bring the lanterns and the topiary inside ~ I have a penchant for subtle lighting and prefer it so much more than bold and bright lights....

I love summer....and summer nights....I only wish they were here a little longer.

Your back yard looks so pretty with your lanterns and globe lights! Growing up I loved camping with my family is one of my favorite memory too

    1. Mary Beth says:

Thanks so much, Tara, and there is nothing like a good childhood memory that includes camping! 🙂

  2. Your outdoor is so inspiring! And your story reminds me of my youth and our summers spent on lake Burton. Every night was spent catching fireflies and roasting marshmallows with summer friends while the adults sat on the porch as chatted into the wee hours. It was blissful! Thanks for sparking such a great memory!

Thank you, Sarah. I remember nights like the one you shared....I would love to go back in time and have them once again....*sigh*

Your backyard is just lovely, Mary Beth! We used to camp when I was young and I remember going to bed with hair smelling of wood smoke, which was never a problem because I just rinsed it in the lake in the morning. So fun!

Thank you, Christy. I forgot how wonderful the smell of wood smoke in my hair was....thanks for the very sweet memory. 🙂
